Where can teens hang out?

Students in grades 6 through 12 are welcome in our Young Adult Center, which is located upstairs behind our Reference Desk! The fire marshal's limit is 25 people, including any library staff. Parents and younger siblings are welcome in the room as long as they are accompanying someone in grades 6 through 12.

Teens are also welcome in any other library space, including the Children's Library if they are accompanying someone aged 12 or younger. Anyone under 18 years of age is subject to the library's patron policies and the library's Unattended Minor Policy.

Are there rules iņ the Young Adult Center?

We only have three rules in the Young Adult Center: Respect others; Respect the space; and Respect yourself. These rules cover any inappropriate behavior in the library such as running, horseplay, crude hand gestures, cursing, playing loud music/videos, abusing library staff, and etc. Such behavior will not be tolerated and patrons of any age who engage in this behavior, either in or outside of the Young Adult Center, will be asked to leave the library premises.

What happens in the Young Adult Center?

Students are invited to participate in our variety of after-school programming Monday through Friday at 3:30 pm in the Young Adult Center.

Our Anime Club for ages 13 and older is from 11 am to 1 pm every third Saturday; and on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 pm, we have an independent ACT Study Hour taking place in the Young Adult Center, which is a designated quiet time.

Students with a library card are welcome to check out a controller for our PlayStation 5 and our Nintendo Switch OLED; and of course, anytime, students are welcome to sit in the Young Adult Center and read, do homework, play board or card games, or  just hang out with friends!
