Volunteering At Stokes Brown Public Library

For Ages 13 to 19

How Does Library Volunteering Work?
  • On the 3rd Thursday of each month, September through March, and May through July, Mrs. Callie holds a mandatory Volunteer Orientation from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Students need only attend one orientation.
  • Stop by the library, or email Mrs. Callie, for a copy of the SBPL Volunteer Agreement.

Who signs the Agreement?
  • Students under 18 and their guardians sign Student and Guardian portions
  • Students over 18 who rely on guardian transportation, and guardians, sign Student and Guardian Portions
  • Students over 18 w/ their own transportation only sign the Student Portion
  • Mrs. Callie signs the Agreement

And then what?
  • On the 3rd Thursday of each month, September through March, and May through July, Mrs. Callie holds a mandatory Volunteer Orientation from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Students need only attend one orientation.

What Happens At Orientation?
  • Mrs. Callie will welcome and state the goals of volunteering at the library.
  • Mrs. Callie will read over the Student portion of the Volunteer Agreement, allowing for students to ask questions if need be,.
  • Then, Mrs. Callie will lead volunteers around the library and demonstrate the most common tasks students will be asked to do.

After orientation: Students notify the library one week in advance to schedule a time to come and work. The library cannot give more than 3 volunteer hours per day.

SBPL’s Volunteer Process is meant to be a multi-week commitment; it is not ideal for last-minute hours needed on a single day. The goal of this new volunteer process is to help students build real-world skills for future jobs, and to mimic processes in the workplace such as accountability, the ability to demonstrate independent work, following directions, and reporting to a superior, to name a few.

We’d love to help you gain community service hours in a timely manner!
